Painting in progress of a colorful tree observed in a valley near Saorge. The composition is based on sketches made in the field and naturally evolved through the process. Still discovering a traditional painting method that goes through the stages of gesso, imprimatura, grisaille, glazes, and very selective impasto (only the leaves). Since I strive to accentuate the atmospheric perspective and the sculptural and spatial qualities I've decided to work with a muted palette. The chroma is added to the painting very slowly to enhance the spatial qualities. I think that this method of painting works well with this type of landscape and will be used for my on-going painting project that depicts the mountain scenery surrounding Saorge and La Vallée de la Roya.Â
