Third site visit. December 16, 2022
Today, I returned for the third time to the location of a view that I’m attempting to depict.  Situated high above the village of Saorge the terrain features golden terraces, trees, and cliffs, and overlooks La Vallée du Caïros. Â
Since the weather has been quite challenging the last few days with snow, rain, and fog, I’ve been working on the painting relying on my memories and photos. My fear is that by working this way I distance myself too much from the place and the experience of being there, so today I ventured up to the site for the third time to sketch and document. Here, I’m sharing some photos of the trail, the site as well as the painting in progress in morning and evening light. My painting, a 50x50cm oil on linen, depicts the view at sunset. It isn’t finished by any means but by visiting the site again I feel assured that it’s on the right path!Â

Small quick sketches, line drawings, on the trail that are insignificant from an art perspective but important for my personal creative process.Â
